New Car

Last week we took the plunge and bought a new car to replace our 15 year old minivan that had died its final death over the Christmas holidays. It's a Mazda 3 sedan, 5-speed manual in "Cooper Red Mica" with black interior. As their advertising slogan says, "Zoom, Zoom, Zoom".

Happy 18th

Happy 18th Birthday to my son Chris !!

Zero to 1650

Last year I came across a swim training plan called "Zero to 1650 In Six Weeks" Tofday I tried the Week 1 workout: 4 x 100m (12 breaths rest between), 4 x 50m (8 breaths), 4 x 25m (4 breaths). In total then I swam 700m. Felt not too bad.

Reviving A Past-time

I recently re-started a small aquarium that we had purchased for Chris back in 2003 when he went into the hospital to be started on his insulin pump. My dad used to love having an aquarium so I think of him a lot as I'm looking at it.

So far so good - only one fish has died out of the 4 I began with - and I've been able to add a few more to the original group. I'm up to 10 fish in the 10 gallon tank. Hard to take good pictures of an aquarium but here are some that are decent:

Weekend Training

This qualifies as the first weekend in a long time about which I can boast that I actually "trained" rather than "thought about training". Saturday I did a good 30 minute spin session (while watching "Hell's Kitchen" on the Food Network!) and today I dod a 5k run in less-than-optimal weather conditions - cold, windy and snowing. I'm proud of myself for getting out there.

The First Day Is The Toughest

It's been ages since I last dragged by sorry butt to the pool to practise my swimming. Enough procrastination - I did it today at lunchtime. While I wish that I looked like this:

I know that I probably looked more like this:

Oh well ...

Happy New Year

Jill and I started the year off right by doing the 5k Resolution Run this morning. The temperature was -16c with a windchill of nearly -30c. Here are some pics:
