Ironman and Ironwoman

Yesterday while I was lolly-gagging around as a course marshal, two of the people in my on-line mentorship group were competing in the Ironman Louisville race. Well done to Amy and Billy. I marvel at your determination and accomplishment!!

As I was reflecting last night on what I had seen at the Fredericton 1/2 Iron, perhaps the single greatest impression was that every participant - from the leader to "tail end Charlie" - was having to dig down deep into their reservoir of grit and desire in order to finish the race. The day was very warm and even the fastest runners were taking the time to walk through the water station, taking on fluids, pausing for the sponges, etc. It made me realize that next month when I am at Lobsterman, I don't need to worry about what people will think if I am last out of the water or slow on the bike or walking more than most. What matters is that I am there and competing.

Happy To Help

Today I volunteered at the Fredericton 1/2 Iron and Olympic Distance Triathlon. It was really great to be able to "pay it forward" - for all those who will be volunteering at my own future races - and to "pay it back" - to the volunteers from my past races.

It was a great event and I had a primo job - traffic control and bike course marshal at the turnaround point.

Well done to everyone who competed!!

Back At It

Two glorious weeks in PEI are now over and so its back to reality. Got in a number of good rides, runs and swims whilst on the Island. Saw Alex Bain, PEI's famous RunMan, in the Gold Cup Trot 5K. I was feeling guilty sitting in a lawnchair on the side of the road drinking a Tim's coffee and munching on a blueberry fritter as we waited for the parade to start.

I am now committed for the 2010 Lobsterman Triathlon. I completed the online registration and paid my entry fee today. Lord help me!!

Vay-Kay

Well faithful readers, as of tonight I am on VACATION for 2 weeks. Yabba Dabba Doo!!

Heading to Prince Edward Island - "the heart of the world, set in the crossroads of the sea" per Anne of Green Gables - where I hope to get in several good long rides, runs and swims. Of course, there will also be lots of rest, relaxation, seafood, family visits, etc.

Ciao !!

Always Sore

Judging by the fact that I almost always seem to be tired and sore, I guess my training program is having an effect! Last week I got in 3x pool workouts, 2x runs and 1x bike ride. Then on the weekend I did a 50k bike (Saturday) and a 10k run (Sunday).

Yesterday we had a chance to do something completely different - we went "tubing" on the Nashwaak river. Floating down the stream "merrily, merrily, merrily, merrily" meant that for the 4 1/2 hours life really WAS a dream!
