Busy Weekend

Lots to report from the weekend that was. First, and most important, was the graduation ceremony on Friday night for Chris from Leo Hayes High School.

Saturday found Jill and I standing in the rain, getting eaten by mosquitos, watching Stephanie compete in the Callendar Hall horse show. Here is a pic of her in one of the Hunter Over Fences class. She had a great show receiving 3 ribbons in flat classes on her leased horse, Jade.

Sunday was Father's Day. Did 5k to start the day then a nice brunch and in the afternoon a practice swim at Killarney Lake.

Swim Training

Had a good day of swim training ysterday. At lunchtime I did a 750m timed swim which took me 22 minutes. I used only breaststroke since that is what I will be doing when I am guiding for the Blind Guys Tri Team.

Then, last night I went to Killarney Lake and went for my first open-water swim of the season. It was a beautiful warm evening. The lake was chilly but I was wearing the triathlon wetsuit that I bought last fall so, no problem.

Videos

Hope you watch and enjoy the two videos that I have just posted. Just to clarify, the name of the race is the "Joe's Team Triathlon". The name of the group that I am participating with is the "Blind Guys Tri Team". Clear as mud?

Joe's Team Triathlon

The Joe's Team Triathlon that I am doing in July as a guide for a blind athlete is a fundraiser for the Princess Margaret Cancer Research Center in Toronto. I was surprised to find out hat it is one of the top 5 in the world.

Thanks to all who have sponsored me for this event. If there are any who stumble upon this blog site who would like to make a donation, click HERE.

My Cousin Mike

As part of my fundraising effort for the Blind Guys Tri Team I have sent emails to family and friends asking them to make a donation. This is the humorous response that I got from my cousin Mike in Ottawa:

I will be pleased to contribute to the Bi-Guys Tryin' Team 750 mile swim to benefit Princess Margaret, Girl Guides and 400 other visually impaired athletes over 66 years of age with the runs. I hope I've got that right. Sounds like a worthy cause.

What a character!!

Was on the road for work yesterday so used it as my "rest" day. Today my objective is to get in a 30 minute swim. Looking forward to the UNB 25-year service awards tonight. My department is responsible for organizing it and so I have been asked to offer the grace before dinner. Congratulations to all the faculty and staff being honoured!!

For the triathlon that Iam guiding Myra in, I am required to raise a minimum of $500 for cancer research. Thanks to the folks who have made contributions so far - mom, my brother Bill, my friends Shawn and Tracy and my colleagues in the UNB HR department. As of this morning I am half way to the goal.

Back 'n Bloggin'

In case there is even a single soul out there in cyberspace who is still looking in on this blog, I'm going to try and restart things.

Here are my latest two goals:

1. I will be guiding my blind friend, Myra, in the "Joe's Team Triathlon" on July 11th in Ontario.

2. I will train for and complete the Lobsterman Triathlon (Olympic distance) in Freeport Maine in September.

This weekend marked the official start of my training for goal #2. Did a nice 45 minute bike ride yesterday and a nice 30 minute run today.
