A Great Week (and weekend)

Last week proved to be a very good week training wise. I got in 3 pool sessions, 2 runs and a 45k bike ride. Trying hard to improve my swimming using a plan I found on the web called "Zero to 1650 in Six Weeks". Also, my last couple of runs have felt much more comfortable than previously.

This weekend was the annual NB Highland Games here in Fredericton. Went ot the Friday eveing kickoff concert plus spent the full day there on Saturday, proudly wearing my kilt. Sunday morning I wore the kilt to church and got lots of nice compliments (plus a good bit of teasing!).

IMHO, the highlight of any Highland event - Games, Tattoos, etc. - is the Massed Band. I love to hear the Drum Major call out, "Massed Bands, by the Centre, Quick March", which is usually followed by 2 bars (8 beats) of drums and then the pipes playing Scotland The Brave.

Here is the massed band from the NB Highland Games:

Think Pink

Today is a BBQ fundraiser for the UNB "rUNBuddies" team which raises money for the Breast Cancer Run For The Cure and yours truly is a "celebrity cook". Clearly, they have VERY low standards for celebrity status!

The Week That Was

Last week was a bit "hit and miss" insofar as training was concerned. Activities associated with my paid gig as an HR manager precluded me from getting to the pool on Tuesday and for a run on Wednesday. Nevertheless, I did get out for a good ride on Thursday plus I swam a 750m "time trial" to see how I would make out. I finished in just under 18 minutes.

Saturday I was out for a 35k ride and took the following picture of the scenic St. John river valley. I feel so fortunate to live in this city (Fredericton) and province (New Brunswick).

TRI-ing to train

In spite of the heat and humidity I've been trying to get in some training. Thursday I did a 500m swim session and Friday I ran 5k at lunch. Saturday was spent completing the work in the flower beds that Lisa and Jill had worked like dogs to do on Friday. Man, what a difference it has made to the exterior of our home!! Early on Sunday I got in a good 40k ride along the scenic St. John river. I was pleased to have averaged 26kph for the ride.

Today is a rest day and then tomorrow I MUST get a run and/or swim in.

Stinkin' Hot !!

We are in the midst of a typical Fredericton heat/humidity wave. My schedule called for a 5k run yesterday evening but I didn't summon the courage to go out and do it and now I'm feeling guilty! I did do a 600m swim yesterday and will probably head to the pool again today plus a ride tonight.

25th Anniversary

Today marks my 25th wedding anniversary. Actual celebration took place on Saturday at our cottage in PEI with lots of family and friends. Two of the highlights (for me) of the day:

1. opening the "time capsule" that we were given on our 1st anniversary to be opened 24 years later; and

2. wearing for the first time my kilt

I'll leave you readers to guess which of these two events was a highlite for my wife Jill and which was met with groans and embarassment ...
