Blog Update

I've decided to update my blog a little. More precisely, I'll be deleting links in the lefthand column that are out-of-date and inserting some for sites that are more active and that I look at every so often.

Memories of France

This morning Chris called me to ask what the name of the singer was that we saw in Paris at the concert in front of the Eiffel Tower because he needed to get some lyrics for a french song. The singer's name was Michel Polnareff and he is a huge star in France. His career goes back to the 60's and continues to the present - not unlike the Rolling Stones, Paul McCartney, Eric Clapton or in Canada, Burton Cummings or Randy Bachman.

I did a quick search on You Tube and low and behold, here is the very concert that Chris and I were at:

At the same concert we also got to see Canada's own Nelly Furtado. Here she is:

Evening Runs

As we get ever closer to the end of October the daylight hours are noticeably shorter which means our Running Room group runs are finishing in complete darkness. Soon they will be starting in complete darkness too! Likewise, my bike rides to (and often from work) are done in the dark. i've got a headlight and rear flasher but I think I'll add some extra reflective bands to make sure that vehicle traffic notices me.

Race Preparation

Tonight is the last class that I will present for my 10k Running Room clinic group. I'll be talking about pre-race preparation. Just so you know, here's what I imagine I look like when I'm racing:

But, I know that this is what I probably look like:

Endless Summer

Not sure if it is global warming, El Nino, the jet stream or just good luck but lately we are experiencing unbelievable weather. Yesterday was nice but today is spectacular. It is currently sunny and 26c.

I managed a 5k run yesterday after mass and then came back and got the lawn cut for (I hope) a final time. Not sure which of the two activities it was but man, am I ever sore today.

Found this picture of Fredericton in the fall. Truly a beautiful place to live, work and run!

The Hardware

Here are the finisher medals from my two recent Half Marathons (Marathon By The Sea and Prince Edward Island Marathon.

PEI Marathon

We had a GREAT time at the PEI Marathon!! In addition to this being Leg 3 of Myras Marathon, it turned out to be a true family running festival. My cousin Chris and wife Caroline flew up from Milwaukee, Wisconsin and did the Half Marathon and my wife Jill did the 10k. Chris and Caroline both beat their goal times and Jill set a PB for the 10k distance!! We were also thrilled to finish in front of so many family members - Jeannie, Alan, Janice, Malcolm and Stephanie - who all made a special (and much appreciated!) effort to be there to support us. I will write a race report later but here are some pics:

Not much news ...

It's been a few days since I wrote an entry on this blog. Two factors I suppose - very busy life and not all that much news. This past weekend was of course the annual Run For The Cure event across Canada. There were roughly 2600 people that came out in Fredericton.

I think it is a tremendous cause but I do wonder why less than 10% of that number participate in the Terry Fox Run that takes place a couple of weeks earlier.

Later today I will be interviewed on CBC Radio's New Brunswick afternoon show, Shift. I've been asked to do a weekly 10-minute interview to chat with the host about the world of Human Resources, issues in the workplace, etc. Hopefully I don't get myself into too much trouble !!
