The Results

Swam 750 meters, Biked 20 kilometers, Ran 5 kilometers. Here's what the official race results site shows:

Finished 258 (of 268)
Name Myra R.
Time 2:19:51
Division F65+
Place 1/1
Swim Place 260
Swim Time 31:06
T1 5:44
Bike Place 221
Bike Time 49:54
T2 4:11
Run Place 263
Run Time 48:57

These are the statistics, but as is often the case, the statistics don't begin to tell the full story. You see, Myra is blind, she is 66+ years old and this was her first ever triathlon. Competing right alongside sighted athletes, some of whom were ONE-QUARTER her age, Myra accomplished something that most mortals would never even attempt. Let me put a couple of the facts into persepctive:

On the bike leg, Myra was faster than 48 other competitors.

In spite of being blind, Myra had faster transition times than roughly one-fifth of the other competitors.

Myra power-walked the 5k mere months after having had knee surgery

Notwithstanding that she was the oldest female competitor in the field, Myra did not finish last in any of the legs - swim, bike or run - and was not the slowest in either of the transitions (swim to bike; bike to run).

So, what's your excuse for not being physically active?

Comments:

Way to go Myra and Peter! I used your entry on my site today. Great motivational tool.
